Selecting Hass Avocados: Look for fruits with pebbled black or dark green skin and no cracks or sunken in spots. Choose firmer so you may ripen them at home, or softer for immediate use.
How to Slice an Avocado: Use a sharp knife to slice the Avocado lengthwise. Gently twist each side to separate. Firmly spear the pit with the tip of your knife to remove the pit, or use a spoon.
With skin still attached, make incisions through just the fruit in either slices or chunks. Then scoop out slices or chunks of fruit, leaving the skin behind.
Ripening & Storing: Ripen in a brown paper bag. Once ripe, Avocados can be refrigerated for up to one week. To store unused portion, squeeze a bit of lemon juice over and tightly seal with plastic wrap.
Here’s three ways to enjoy Hass Avocados in less than 5 minutes:
#1 “Bring it On” Breakfast Burrito: Wrap warm scrambled eggs, small chunks of avocado, salsa and shredded cheese in a whole-wheat tortilla and go get ‘em!
#2 Simply Served: Squeeze the juice from half a lime over sliced avocado, sprinkle with salt & pepper.
#3 Guacamole Rapido: Mix a few spoonfuls of your favorite salsa with mashed avocado. Serve with tortilla chips.
